Tuesday Ten: September Style Tips

At the beginning of each month, I will be sharing 10 simple and straightforward style tips or ideas to try. I figured what better time than now to start this new tradition since New York Fashion Week starts this Thursday…

Speaking of Fashion Week, I’ll be heading out to NYC for the shows with my online editorial team in tow. Each day we will be reporting back with exciting updates, exclusive photos and more. So keep your eyes peeled for my first ever Fashion Week Diary. In the meantime, I hope you get inspired by all of our fun tips and styling ideas listed below!

Tuesday Ten: September Style Tips

Wear white after Labor Day! If you ask me, the moratorium on white clothing after Labor Day is simply outdated. Besides, my favorite shades for the fall and winter seasons are creamy ivories and wintry whites.

Tuesday Ten: September Style Tips
Transition your sundress by layering over a lightweight sweater and pairing the look with low-rise booties.

Tuesday Ten: September Style Tips
Mix prints this month! I dare you to mix two printed pieces you wouldn’t otherwise wear together. That said, the mash up should be done with care. Click here to learn how to mix and match prints like a pro. (I personally love polka dots and stripes together.)

Tuesday Ten: September Style Tips
Belt your vests and jackets. One of my favorite ways to create a feminine silhouette with fall’s bulkier, boyish fashions is by cinching the waist with a belt. Looking for a chic fall coat? Check out my top belted coat picks.

Tuesday Ten: September Style Tips
Double up on denim. Some may refer to this look as a “denim sandwich,” but I think head-to-toe denim is a definite do for fall. Just be careful not to mix two like-colored pieces. Ideally you want contrasting shadesโ€“like a super light denim (or chambray) top and dark denim bottoms. To give the look a girly touch, add a brightly colored statement necklace.

Tuesday Ten: September Style Tips
Add a cardigan. Transition your summer styles by topping them off with an oversize cardigan and closed-toe shoes (or sandals if it is still warm in your town). Personally, I love the feel of a “boyfriend” cardigan since it feels more relaxed and the oversize silhouette is cozy for fall.

Tuesday Ten: September Style Tips
Wear socks with your frocks. Give your favorite dress, skirt, or pair of cropped pants an autumnal overhaul by wearing a fun pair of socks with your favorite pair of heels.

Tuesday Ten: September Style Tips
Wear your cutoffs right into fall by pairing them with tights and a lightweight sweater or dolman sleeve top and tough boots.

Tuesday Ten: September Style Tips
Modify your maxi for cooler temperatures by pairing it with boots, a belt and a cool jacket.

Tuesday Ten: September Style Tips
Add some lace. Mixing lace into your fall looks is a lovely way to work in a delicate layer that will contrast with fall’s heavy threads.

Which look are you going to debut this September? If you give one of these styling tips a try, snap a photo and upload it to your LaurenConrad.com profile page for a chance to be featured as a Chic of the Week.

Happy Fall ladies and gents!

XO Lauren

I agree: You can wear white all-year round. Maybe that’s because I am originally from Cali, and we don’t follow such strict rules! Living on the East Coast, I always get side-eyes when I wear white after Labor Day…LOL!

I think I’ll transition a summer dress to fall. I also love wearing whites beyond the summer months, that ‘after labor day rule’ is definitely outdated.

GREAT tips Lauren!! I especially love the layering over the sundress idea… I have been doing that but hadn’t noticed the trend :) and I so agree on wearing white after labor day :)

The “”modify your maxi”” pic shows a skirt from Club Monaco called “”adela””; I have this skirt and absolutely love it!! Maybe I will try that fall look with it!! I have worked at Club Monaco for over a year and a half now and absolutely love it, I spot someone wearing something from there at least once a day, LOL.

Love these tips, Lauren and can’t wait to see your NYFW Diary!!

Another note on the denim-on-denim….. the look from the pic works really well because the bottoms are very feminine! They’ve got a cute cuff at the end, are slim-fitted, and are capri length. That really helps make it not look so cowboy!

That ”Double Up On Denim” looks so interesting.. But everytime I try it, it seems like it doesn’t match.. I guess it’s just because I don’t ever wear that mix together, but I definetely want to try it out, and this time good!
