Fit Tip: Write It Down

If you have a tough time sticking to a healthy diet, I suggest keeping a food diary. It may sound like a crazy nit-picky thing to do, but it really helps. Even if you do it for just one week, you realize what you are (or are not) putting into your body. Furthermore, it’s been said that people who keep a food journal tend to lose more weight than those who do not. It makes sense when you think about it. After all, those cookies and sugary Frappuccino’s don’t look so appetizing when they are staring back at you in ink…

If the pen and paper method is not for you, there are actually several great apps you can use to track your daily food intake. They are really easy to use and have a huge database of food and their calories. A few of my favorites include Calorie Tracker app, Calorie Counter, and Lose It.

How is everyone doing with my Bikini Boot Camp Plan? If you’re having trouble sticking to the plan, try this trick and let me know how it works out for you. (Better yet, include your workouts in your diary as well.)

Do you have any helpful tips to keep you on track for a healthier lifestyle?

XO Lauren

Sparkpeople.com is also an amazing site! It’s a wealth of knowledge & information on that site! It’s gotta everything from diet plans, diet trackers, weight trackers, community support through different teams & social features, and fitness incentives. I lost 75lbs at one time, with the help of this site.

MyFitnessPal is a great app and website. I use that to track all of my food and exercise. Add me there if you have one! kaylaqueen :)

My favorite calorie counter is called My Fitness Pal. It has changed my life! I’m so thankful my best friend shared it with me nearly a year ago! My mom just started using it too and it’s been extremely helpful.

the no sugar is the hardest part! i usually have a pretty healthy diet, but i put a tbs of sugar in my coffee and have skinny cow ice cream sandwiches after dinner. cutting them out is killer! i’ve caved more than i’ve abstained from eating them haha. but i like the workouts and snack/meal ideas!

I started your Bikini Boot Camp Plan yesterday! I think a food diary is a great idea! You always inspire me to keep on these diets Lauren. Thank you so much!

  • Julie Madsen

I also use the app MyFitnessPal. I’ve been using it since January and have lost about 25 lbs! It’s the most helpful, easiest tool I’ve ever used.

  • Larissa Wilhelm

I really like the app MyNetDiary because you can log your food, exercise, measurements, weight, and also it let’s you pick a target date. I’ve been using it for a couple years now and it helps me know when I need to eat more, less, what nutrients I’m lacking, and what not.

My Fitness Pal helped me lose 25 pounds this year! You can download the App for your iPhone. Keeping track was the only way I lost the weight. I agree, Lauren, noting what we eat is one of the best ways to keep those calories down!

I use MyFitnessPal.com and I love it! It creates guidelines for me to follow (number of calories, carbs, sugars, etc. per day) and when I enter food it automatically counts everything up for me, so less work for me to do! They also help you keep track of your water intake. It’s easy, convenient, and they have a great support community. I recommend it for everyone! Very user friendly. I was married 9 months ago and I’ve been avoiding the “”Newlywed 10″” by using this site to keep track of my eating habits.

  • Julie Madsen

Tawsha – I got married last July and am also going against the usual “”post-wedding weight gain”” by actually losing weight and getting in better shape. MyFitnessPal is the best!

  • Jaclyn Schler

I do this and it works great! Really makes you think twice about what you’re eating!

I use to keep count/journal of my food at a time & lost 20 lbs. Unfortunately to say I’ve gained it back up again :-(… That of course was during my single days & I had all the time to myself. Now I am married & always out & about with the husband where I sometimes don’t see or care of what I eat (same with him). Ever since we got married we both have gone over board with how we eat. We would do workouts & I would eat good, but then we would slack off. It is not so easy telling my husband to eat veggies with me (due to me being a vegetarian), but I can put some good/healthy items on his plate that he would eat. I just downloaded the myfitnesspal app & will definitely keep up with this & hope that I can have my bikini body in no time ;-)

MyFitnessPal is an amazing app! Been using it for a few weeks now and it’s been helping a lot. :) I definitely recommend it to all. I love how you can even record your exercise schedule and see how much calories you’re burning!

I’m loving the Bikini Boot Camp! I’m also using My Fitness Pal- it’s so easy to find the nutrition info for anything on their app.

  • Ashley Amundson

I’ve been using loseit.com and the Lose It! app for two weeks now and have noticed a fantastic shift in how I view everything I eat. My fiance is using it too, and we’re both an open book to each other about how much we’ve eaten and how much we’ve exercised. Having an app stare back at me and I see exactly how many calories that cookie from Subway actually is, I now think twice about eating high calorie junk food. I was a fairly healthy eater before, but through loseit.com, I realized that I just ate too much of it. I’ve already lost over six pounds in two weeks. Great post, Lauren!

Im only on day two of bikini camp; anyway, I did write out a meal plan for the next 10 days inculding breakfast snacks lunch dinner and desert. so far so great. Im sticking to the plan and since I already know what Im eating Im not thinking about food so no cravings. If I do change the menu i update my chart so this kind of works as a food dairy :)

  • Laura Murray

I am officially a week through your Bikini Boot Camp- and honestly never felt better! I love eating healthy and doing my daily exercises and I feel happier about myself which is the main thing. I use the MyFitnessPal app and absolutely love it! Its so easy to track the food you eat along with the exercise you are doing :]

I’ve tried the food diary thing, but it was just one more extra thing that took up my time, so it didn’t really work for me.

My best tip on eating healthy is to plan your meals and have the food readily available. If I plan my meals for the week, prepare it ahead of time and not buy any other food for the house, I’ll end up eating that healthy meal that I prepared ahead of time.

For me personally, this works the best. Otherwise you just reach for anything when you’re starving.

i love this tip, although for me, my problem is getting into the habit of filling out the journal everyday. but when i do, i can see how good/bad i’ve been eating and then change my behavior! very helpful. also helps to write down exercises because it can serve as motivation seeing how much work youre doing!

  • Kelby Peachey

I’ve been trying to lose weight now for a while and I just never have enough motivation. My boyfriend has recently challenged me to run 30 miles in a month and if I do he’ll buy me a book. Little rewards are the best kinds of motivation… it seems to be working for me.
