Nail Files: Be Bon Voyage Ready

I’ve had my fair share of trips and travels during which I’ve been stranded with chipped nails and peeling polish. Chipping a nail on day two of a seven-day vacay can really put a damper on your mani-morale. To avoid said situations, I always travel with a few pre-packaged nail polish remover wipes and a box of Sally Hansen Nail Polish Strips. The strips are easy to apply, require zero dry time and you don’t have to stress over the polish bottle breaking or spilling in your bag. Personally I have found that the sparkly strips are especially chip resistant (I prefer the gold).

Have you tried Sally Hansen Nail Polish Strips?

    im going to try these!

i love the sally hensen products especially the double shine top coat & air brush instant tan. theyre amazing :) xxx

Ooh, I have to try those! I’m a secretary, and it’s so hard to keep your nails from chipping. The only thing that Ive been able to really put trust in, is a new nail process using Shellac nail polish; They are put under an infrared special lamp to dry

  • Amy Breckenridge

i always use an essie base coat and a top coat to keep my nails from chipping! i can’t wait to try out these polish strips – i’ve seen them at CVS but haven’t bought a set yet!

check out my nail polish picks for the spring!

I love the sally hansen products, there are other companies that make it & they’re not as good. And I found that once you open the sealed plastic, they dry out quickly. So use them! Otherwise I always get a mani with the UV Gel Coat, it’s just nail polish that seals under a UV light. It doessn’t chip, nail polish remover won’t take it off, & it lasts 2 weeks! I LOVE IT

  • Lauren Hoffman

I’m a huge fan on them! The Sephora ones stay really well too. I usually get a Shellac mani and pedi for vacations.

I’m obsessed with shellacking my nails! It is the same price as a mani and lasts about two weeks!

  • Stacie Grissom

Cute nails! I love the UV gel coat– it totally helps with chipping. :)

My most recent DIY– a pom pom necklace!

  • Rebecca Kelsey Sampson

You nails in that picture are so gorgeous! I remember when you tweeted it last year.

    Kindness is the best accessory,

  • Lizzie

Yes, I love them! I tried them last year when I went to the Dominican Republic for 2 weeks. Right before I left I got a manicure, by day 1 it was chipping. By day 3 I went and got nail polish remover and then used the Sally Hanson strips I bought. They stayed on the whole trip with no chipping. Plus I got tons of compliments! The only thing is they are like $10 which is as much as a bottle of nail polish so I don’t buy them too frequently.

  • Sara Sawasaki

My sister-in-law and I LOVE the Sally Hansen Nail Polish Strips!! They are the best. Had no problems with putting them on and they lasted a good 10 days (even with my fast growing nails)! I wore the pink sparkles and she had the gold sparkles. LOVE LOVE LOVE them. :)

can you make a tutorial on how to apply those stripes.. i have tried them couple of times but it looks really bad. i’d really appreciate it!

  • karly goins

great advice Lauren! I am a huge fan of travel worthy beauty tricks including mini nail polish removing wipes, and mini makeup removing wipes. I have yet to travel with a manicure for this very worry, but now I feel prepared to be a glamorous jet setter everywhere I travel, thanks! xoxo

  • Helen Le

Yes, I have tried them and like them better than nail polish. The adhesive strip is long lasting up to 2 weeks. The designs are especially different and so much more festive. I love the bling ones. Regular polish seems to chip so quickly.

  • Melissa Panici

These nails are beautiful! I have never tried Sally Hansen nail polish but I think I’m going to have to now!:) Thanks for sharing!

  • Cherie LaFlamme

Cool nails, and great idea about the polish strips. I love them for vacations!

Thanks for the post…I have been circling Sally Hansen nail strips in the drugstores for a while now as I wasn’t sure if I should spend $10 on non-nail polish…I am going on ski trip this weekend and I am most definitely going to try these!

  • Coral V

I love them I’ve treid about 5 different styles and they are so cute and fun. I do however have a tip to MAKE YOUR POLISH LAST..

After you apply your nailpolish, DO NOT apply a top coat, top coats have thinners in them, and when you thin nailpolish it becomes more prone to chipping.

Simply.. BLOW-DRY your nails! Just like hair, blow-drying dries the liquid state of your hair and smoothes it out. Same applies for polish. It dries the liquid and leaves it shining. Set your blowdryer on MEDIUM and hold it about 10cm away from your hand and move it back and forth for about 30 seconds, then switch to COLD on your blowdryer and do the same 10 cm distance for 30 seconds!! Works like a charm.

Let me know if it works for you!!

If you like the Sally Hansen strips then you’re going to LOVE Incoco nail strips! They can be found online at and I don’t buy any other strips than this brand. The prints and types of nail strips Incoco offers is must larger than Sally Hansen. They even have several types of french tip strips. Seriously, I love this brand and can’t recommend them any higher! :)

  • Chelsea Bengal

Oh, forgot to add that when you purchase a pack of nail strips from, they automatically come with a nail polish remover wipe (sometimes 2), a nail file, and a sample of another color of nail strips. Definitely worth the shipping cost!

  • Danielle Marie {Envision Pretty}

I love the Sally Hansen strips! I use them in fun, funky patterns on my ring finger. Gives the co-workers a conversation piece 😉

    704 du Jour

  • Tiffani Stuart

I’m going to have to try them! I’m loving the different designs & animal print. Don’t tell my sister, though– she’s a nail tech that always does my nails haha.

  • Avec Sofie
  • Lisa Lopez

These are great! It is important that people follow the tips for making them work though. Always warm them in up in your hand before applying and wipe the nail down with polish remover so you start with a clean nail!

  • Lindsay Jewell

I have some black and white zebra strips from Sally Hansen. I was so impressed with how easily they adhere to your nail, how much they look like nail polish, and how easily you can just file them off the tip of your nail to create a perfect manicure! Two thumbs up for me!

  • Melissa mould

Love these nails. I actually just posted a blog feature all about nails too on xx

  • Laura Hanson

Gosh, can’t wait to try these. Anyone know where you can get them easily in the UK?

  • Claire Coppersmith

I just put on the Sally Hanson stripes, but I don’t know if I did it right because they came off really quickly.

  • Emmy Wong

My sister loves these strips. I’m gonna try them soon.

  • Stacie Tedesco

Lauren, I love Jamberry Nails! They are nail shields with 150 designs and they never chip or dry out!

  • Vivien Harmat

I actually love them. I tried two of them because I’m not a stedy hand when it comes to do my nails so when I want something more than just one color I put these on. they are awesome :)

  • Kellie Norton

This is such a fabulous idea, especially if I’m I hurry! I can NEVER paint my nails without at least getting 1 smudge (if not more) on my nails, it’s highly frustrating! This is a great alternative! Thanks Lauren :)

  • Emily Seymour

I have been considering buying and trying them, how long do they last?

  • Ivanna Mijares

oh myyyy im wearing the gold ones right now! i loved them they don’t chip at all

  • Amanda McKinney

Yes! I love Sally Hansen Nail Effects Stickers :)

Two ways I’ve worn them: and

  • Kristen Haddick

great tip!! going to definetly try it out!

  • Emily Edwards

I’ve tried them and I love them!! I’ve always gotten compliments when I wear them, too!

  • Christina Palmer

I just bought a snake skin pair tonight :)

gonna wait for my Crackle to chip first..

Essie has a top coat to avoid chipping for any of you who are looking for one that works!

  • Cassie Hanson

have always been curious about these! thank you for the insight :)

  • Monica Castillo

I tried the lace strips with a clear coat to seal. Lasted for about 2 weeks. Note to all…as soon as u open the sealed pack u must use them or they will dry up and have been wasted. Had to learn that the hard way. I want to buy the black with gold glitter and the white love script next!

  • Chris

i tried the sephora ones, they are easy to use and really fun, everybody think it’s a normal nail polish

  • Gina

I’ve always wanted to try those.. I’ve been a bit skeptic since they aren’t exactly the cheap way to go and for some reason I can’t get the polish to last longer than 2 days without chipping.

    Follow me on tumblr!

  • Liz C

Thanks for the tip Lauren, I’ll be up for a one-week-trip to London in march (won’t have the time for manicure there) so I’ll definitely try those.

  • michAlexandra

I’m in love with these leopard nails! Sooo freaking cute! I really need to try the nail strips. When I paint my nails the polish ends up chipping within 2 or 3 days, it’s very frustrating. I’d like to see how much time I could get with the strips.

  • Shellz

omg i love animal print and those nails look gooood!Looking for a new lipstick? This post might help :

  • Liz Ashbaugh

I was just going to look up more info on these, when I saw your post! I can always count on you to answer my questions before I realize I have them hehe. I was wondering if you have any advice for applying these properly. I haven’t tried them yet, but I’m also concerned about how to remove them. Once you want to change, how do you get them off?

  • chikako horiuchi

love it love it love it! the cutest nails ever.

  • Alicia

I LOVE Sally Hansen Salon Effects! I really like the neon pink one (Cry Baby) and the glitter ones. I definitly reccomend them! The only thing I would say is that it’s very damaging to your nails (like any other nail polishes) so only use it once in a while. Great idea for vacay!

  • marina Leps

No i have not but i can’t wait too these r so cute! ;o

  • Dee- Deelightful Studios

LOVE! Great design for spirng since the base color is a pinky-nude hue. Now I have to teach my boyfriend how to do nail art so he can help…!
